My name is Aaron, founder of CompareEcom.com. I thought it was important to share some background on how this site came about and what my vision is for it.
A Bit About Me
I got into the e-commerce game back around 2010 when I began helping with my family business, an online store selling Japanese kimonos and other clothing.
We had a local supplier with contacts to manufacturers in Japan. We felt we’d found a niche that wasn’t being fulfilled, so there was great promise. But we weren’t expert website builders, nor marketing gurus. So we began searching for the right solutions to create this exciting new business venture.
We first looked into doing it bespoke, by hiring a software engineer. However, this was expensive and whenever something went wrong, it would cost us time and money to struggle to find a solution.
E-commerce Experiments
Then a friend led us onto a site called Squarespace. It was less prevalent back then, but we had heard of it in passing.
We didn’t realize how much easier web development would be using a service like this. We began customizing the look (and back-end) of our website without any help from a software engineer, using simple templates and drag-and-drop widgets.
Since that point, we have experimented with a variety of website solutions, especially those more focused on e-commerce, such as Shopify and Magento.
The family business has grown and prospered. Over the last decade or so, I’ve built up a wealth of experience and knowledge myself using these platforms.
That’s why I’ve now gathered a team to create CompareEcom.com – a hub to share what I’ve learned and make it easier for others to make the right choice for their business needs.
